Organize,
represent, and interpret data with up to three categories; ask and answer
questions about the total number of data points, how many in each category,
and how many more or less are in one category than in another.

Order
three objects by length; compare the lengths of two objects indirectly by
using a third object.

Describe
measurable attributes of objects, such as length or weight.

5. Procedures
1) Review the procedure to move Bee-Bots by playing a body game with command cards.
- Let’s pretend that we are Bee-Bots.
- Can you move by following these commands?
2) Observe how the teacher’s Bee-Bot draws lines and a circle with a pen.
- If I press Forward button two times, what shape of lines would this Bee-Bot draw?
- If I press Right button one time (four times), what shape of lines would this Bee-Bot draw?
3) [Pre-test]Measure how far the Bee-Bot can move forward when
giving a command of moving forward
one time; Count the distance by using
non-standard measures (e.g., paper sticks, clips); Record each
count with a
non-standard measure used for the future reference.
4) [Pre-test] Measure the same distance by using a standard measure (e.g., a ruler); Record the length for
the future reference.

5) Have an individual Bee-Bot.
- Now, we’re going to make our Bee-Bots draw the same lines or shapes together as a group. Please don’t
turn on the power/sound button until I tell you.
6) Discuss and think how to draw the same shapes of lines (or a circle) shown on pictures (using a board
and command cards).
- How can you make your Bee-Bots draw lines (or a circle) like this picture?
- To make a line with this length, how many Forward commands does your Bee-Bot need?
7) Try to draw individually the same lines (or a circle) by using Bee-Bots.
- Now, let’s give your Bee-Bot these commands, as shown by the command cards.

6. Review of Today’s Activity.
- Which direction Bee-Bots move when we press this button?
- What is the length of one step that the Bee-Bot makes?
